2024, a year full of events and projects for Mettet XP
In 2023, the Royal Union Motor Entre Sambre et Meuse (RUMESM) began a 5-year period of festivities to mark its centenary, celebrating a great epic and historical creation begining from 1923 to 1927. Since then, each year has been part of this dynamic with events and surprises. The year 2024, the 2nd chapter of this programme, fully respected this ambition, with a rich and varied programme.
World-class events
Mettet XP and the Jules Tacheny circuit hosted several main event of the motorsport calendar:
- Belgian Supermoto and Rallycross Championships: breathtaking races, to open and close the season, highlighting the best national talents.
- World RX of Benelux : a stage of the World Rallycross Championship, with high-flying battles between the best drivers in the world.
- Mettet Superbiker and S1GP: the flagship event of the season once again brought together a large audience at the beginning of october and confirmed its unmissable status. Not to mention the After Race Festival, now just as essential.
A turning point towards training
2024 marked the inauguration of Mettet XP, the brand new centre for learning defensive driving and driving improvement. This space dedicated to training, which will be enriched in a few days with driving and first aid sessions in partnership with VIAS and Secours and You, positions the circuit as a key player in road safety.
On the environmental side, Mettet XP’s commitment has been strengthened this year with:
- A project to reforest more than 1,500 trees in Wallonia, in the region of Sovet (Province of Namur);
- Continuation of initiatives already in place, such as:
- Photovoltaic panels,
- Hydrocarbon separators,
- Recycling
- Rainwater recovery for sanitary facilities,
- Low-carbon study launched in 2023,
- Cycling activities on the circuit,
- Planting of hedges along the training zone,
- Development of directional islands using plants.
An active role in the region
True to its values, RUMESM continues its support and local commitment with initiatives such as:
- The financing of the restoration of the organ of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Mettet, a symbol of the club’s attachment to the cultural heritage of the municipality;
- Hosting of Race for the Cure, a joging race in support of the foundation against cancer;
- Solidarity actions in favour of local associations, such as the Villa Bourgogne.
Freddy Tacheny, President of RUMESM: “2024 was a year of developments, collective efforts and progress. Between competitions, sustainable projects and local initiatives, we have shown that RUMESM is much more than a sporting player: it is a club rooted in its region and looking to the future. »
2025: a new stage
RUMESM is already preparing for another promising year, with projects and events that will continue to enhance the Jules Tacheny circuit and support the local community.
